Inc of Idaho
Mission Statement
|
|
The mission of Blind Services
Foundation, Inc. is to enhance the quality of life for all blind and visually
impaired citizens of Idaho, by providing services and adaptive equipment that
are not available through other sources and to exercise all powers granted by
law, necessary and proper to carry out these services.
Purpose |
To 'help' provide the
gift of independence to those who thought that a regular life was out of their
reach. Help us give back the gift of sight.
Charitable Status
We are incorporated under the non-profit laws of the State of Idaho and we are
recognized as a (501){C)(3) non-profit, charitable corporation by the IRS. We
are governed by a volunteer board of directors and we have no paid staff.
Monies donated are used for the citizens of Idaho only.
We are here to help - WE CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU There are
studies that show that about half of these people live below the poverty level
and do not have the resources to equip themselves to enjoy a near-normal life.
Because they do not have the opportunities for education, transportation and
equipment to supplement their vision, they can usually only find low paying
jobs. Most insurance programs do not pay for rehabilitation.
Help us
provide the gift of independence to those who thought that a regular life was
out of their reach.
WHAT IS BLINDNESS?"
A person is considered
"legally blind" when his/her best vision is 20/200 or less in the
better eye or the person's
visual field is 20 degrees or less.
It is not true that all blind
persons have absolutely no sight; in fact, most blind persons have some
remaining vision. A person may be considered visually impaired when he/she can
no longer drive safely, has difficulty reading a newspaper or cannot see objects
to the side. And being visually impaired is not just a problem for the elderly.
With degenerative eye diseases, such as macular degeneration, anyone can become
impaired.
DOES BLINDNESS AFFECT
SOMEONE YOU KNOW?
According to the census bureau
there are over thirty-four thousand severely visually impaired citizens in
Idaho. These people cannot read ordinary newsprint even with the aid of glasses
or contact lenses. About six thousand of these people are blind, and most have
no idea that there is help available.
Does this sound like someone
that you know? Give that loved one the freedom of independence through assisted
sight. Put them in touch with our organization and add them to the list of
visually impaired.
